Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE)
Positioning the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) as a National Leader in Combating the Opioid Crisis
The Challenge
Founded in 2018, the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) was a new voice in the nation’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis. The foundation began awarding grants but needed to elevate its visibility and establish its identity as a national 501(c)(3) foundation dedicated to supporting patient-centered, innovative solutions that drive long-term change.
Our Approach
MannersPR began working with FORE in 2020 to develop and execute a strategic communications plan that would amplify its voice and impact. Our work has included:
Positioning FORE as the leading national foundation solely dedicated to preventing and treating opioid use disorder, supporting recovery, and advancing solutions to address the crisis.
Crafting compelling narratives that showcase the foundation’s leadership and the life-changing work of its grantees.
Building relationships with key reporters covering the opioid crisis, healthcare, philanthropy, and related issues.
Securing high-profile media placements to raise awareness of FORE’s mission, initiatives, and evidence-based insights.
Developing thought leadership opportunities to help FORE share knowledge and support best practices.
Results
Through strategic media outreach and positioning, MannersPR has helped FORE establish itself as a trusted and visible leader in the national response to the opioid crisis. FORE’s work has been featured in major outlets including Inside Philanthropy, Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Politico, NPR, and others.
As Inside Philanthropy described in its coverage of how funders are guiding the distribution of opioid settlement dollars:
“FORE is the only national private foundation that makes prevention and treatment of opioid use disorder its sole focus.”
Impact
Today, FORE is widely recognized as the leading foundation solely dedicated to funding programs to combat opioid use disorder and overdose. It has awarded nearly $50 million in grants to date, advancing innovative solutions and helping to inform more effective and evidence-based responses to one of America’s most pressing public health challenges.
Conclusion
MannersPR’s work with FORE demonstrates the value of strategic positioning and sustained media engagement in helping an emerging foundation become a trusted source of knowledge and innovation in the nation’s ongoing response to the opioid crisis.
At the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts’ All Grantee Meeting, Myrna Manners moderated a panel, “A Conversation with National Journalists: Impactful Reporting on the Crisis,” featuring Christopher Booker (PBS), Brian Mann (NPR), and Dan Gorenstein (Tradeoffs), who shared insights on covering the opioid and overdose crisis.
