Raising the Visibility of the Hereditary Disease Foundation: Strategic PR, Branding, and Media Outreach for a Pioneering Scientific Organization

The Challenge
Although the Hereditary Disease Foundation (HDF) had a rich history of scientific leadership—most notably through its founder, Dr. Nancy Wexler, whose work led to the discovery of the Huntington’s disease gene—the organization needed to raise its contemporary profile and connect with a broader audience. HDF had a groundbreaking legacy, but needed a cohesive communications strategy, modern digital presence, and consistent media engagement.

Our Approach
From 2015 to 2023, MannersPR partnered with HDF to revitalize its brand, reintroduce it to the public, and position it as a forward-looking scientific organization with a powerful story and mission. Our comprehensive strategy included:

  • Brand Modernization and Identity Development: Created a comprehensive identity packet to articulate the Foundation’s voice, mission, and impact, including messaging guidance, a refined narrative, and visual elements.

  • Website Redesign Oversight: Guided a full redesign of HDF’s website to reflect innovation, authority, and accessibility.

  • Webinar Series Launch: Developed and launched a branded webinar series to showcase HDF’s science and mission.

  • Ongoing Communication: Produced and distributed a monthly digital newsletter to keep the community informed and engaged.

  • Social Media Activation: Launched and managed HDF’s initial social media presence, expanding reach and engagement.

  • Media Relations & High-Impact Coverage: Secured prominent media placements, including a New York Times feature on Dr. Nancy Wexler and a televised segment on NY1.

  • Fundraising and Event Support: Promoted and publicized HDF’s fundraising initiatives and scientific symposia, helping to attract donors, scientists, and members of the public to support and participate in its mission.
